SRK on Fans　[Popularity & Stardom] [編集]

今日は日曜日。また大勢の人がSRKの家に集まっているでしょう。これは普段の週末ですが、誕生日とかになるともっと大勢集まるそうです。

姿を見せるなと警察に叱られるそうですが、SRKや家族は、ああやってただ待たせておくのは気の毒だからと、家にいる時はこんな風に柵から手を振ったりします。

SRKのインタビューをずっと見てきている私は、彼がいかに何回も何回も同じ質問をされるか、その度にいかに誠実に（ときには皮肉に）答えているかに感心します。その何度も聞かれる質問シリーズのトップが、「なぜこんなにも人気があると思うか？」です。（ちなみに第２位は「なぜ浮気をしないか」です（笑）。）

実際皆にとって不思議なんだと思う。いい役者さんだと思うけど他にもうまい人はいるし、もっとハンサムな人はいるし、若くもないし、小さい（公称175cmだけど本人も認めるシークレットブーツを履いてるので実際はもっと小さそう）し、踊りがうまいって訳でもない。私自身もなぜSRKだけに惹かれるのか不思議なんですけど、一番不思議に思っているのは本人かもしれません。

I know very truly I'm not a genius. I'm very clearly not gifted. And I know that the position I've reached is the position that should be given to a genius. It's not deservingly so. 僕は自分が天才じゃないことを知っている。天賦の才は明確に無い。そして、僕が上り詰めたこの地位は、本来天才にのみ与えられるべきものだと思う。僕にふさわしいわけじゃない。

The reason I'm good to fans or I believe in them is because, one I'm employed by them so I'm like "thank you guys. You've been kind to me," So I'm returning that kindness. 僕がファンに親切、あるいは彼らに帰依しているのはつまり彼らが僕を雇ってくれているからだ。「皆、ありがとうこんなに良くしてくれて」という気持ち。親切を返しているんだよ。

And the second way to look at it is "OK, listen I'm really scared, don't go anywhere. I know I don't deserve it but thank you so much so stick on." I'm just being... what do you say I'm being kind to them for my own selfish gains. もう一つの見方としては、「OK,　いいかい、僕は恐いんだ。どこへも行かないでおくれよ。皆の好意に値しないことは重々分かっているけど、でも、ありがとう。ずっとここにいてくれよ。」つまり、僕は自分の利己的な目的から彼らに親切にしているとも言える。

But whatever the case, I'm immensely grateful. I think it comes out of gratitude. It doesn't come out of any other reason. いずれにしても、彼らには心から深く感謝している。（僕がファンにすることは）ただ感謝だけからの行為であり、それ以外の理由は何も無い。

If I see, on weekends, I have hundreds of people outside my house. Today is Sunday a lot of people will come out in the evening. I feel I'm going in to meeting them all. My security with a gun says don't. But I want to meet them. Because I have to thank them. 週末になると家の前には何百人もの人が集まる。今日は日曜日だから夕方には大勢やってくるだろう。本当は出ていって皆と逢いたい気持ちだ。武装した警備員はやめろというけどね。でも会いたいんだ。お礼を言わなければって。

So I think fans are like how you feel in front of an ocean. You know sometimes when you are so full of yourself, you go down on the beach and stand in front of the sea and realize how insignificant you are. ファンというものは、海に向かったときに感じる気持ちに似ている。人は時に頭の中が自分のことでいっぱいになっても、海岸に降りて海を前にするといかに自分がちっぽけな存在かを実感するだろ。

And all the importance in your house and well up fostered rooms and your Luis Vuittons and your BMWs and you're like "Oh God, I'm so powerful". And you go and stand in front of the sea and you realize you are such an insignificant nobody in the larger scheme of things. 家にある高価な物全て、きれいな部屋、ルイヴィトンだのBMWだのに囲まれて「神よ、私はこんなにもパワフルだ」と思う。ところが海の前に立つと,壮大な万物に比べると、自分なんか誰でもないほんのちっぽけなものだということに気がつくんだ。

Fans to me are like that. See, when I see them I realize my insignificance without them. I want to go and stand with them and say "OK, I'm insignificant. But thank you for making me so significant, for making me so special. 僕にとってのファンはそういうものだ。彼らを見ると、彼ら無しの自分のちっぽけさを認識する。だから行って彼らにこう言いたいんだ。「そうさ,僕はちっぽけだよ。でもありがとう。僕をちっぽけじゃなくしてくれて。僕を特別なものにしてくれて」。

ナマステ・ボリウッドで、A.R.ラフマーンにインタビューしたときに、彼が同じことを言っていました。「最も神に感謝している賜物は何か？」と聞くと、彼は「海を前にしたとき、自分がちっぽけなものだと感じることができる力」と答えてくれたのです。Great minds think alike. 大物ほど努めて謙虚であろうとしているのですね。

映画の中の早口でまくしたてているSRKと素のままのSRKって…

本当に謙虚なのかどうかは分かりませんが、謙虚であろうと懸命に自分を律している人だと思います。こんな立場でいて皆にチヤホヤされて、ともすれば傲慢になろうとするのを理性で押しとどめているんじゃないかしら。でも負けず嫌いの子どもっぽい部分もかなりあるので、たまに出してます。
